Abbey Stadium

I am never quite sure what exactly constitutes a stadium but I have my doubts here. Whereas I am the first to admit that Brentford's ground is looking well past its sell by date, this ground really looks dilapidated. Improvements are on the way though. The first set of pictures taken in December 2001 show that the old south terracing (behind the goal) has gone and a new stand will be built 10 yards further back. Then the same thing will happen at the other end, leaving only 2 more stands to be replaced! Entry to the away section is through a field and over a stream. Despite being an old fashioned ground there is a real lack of atmosphere here. The photos taken during the summer of 2002 show that the new south stand has been built and looks good. Take a good look at all the advertising hoardings that advertise ITV digital ,because you will not be seeing them again.

The ground is now formed of a new and decent stand behind one goal that seems par for the course in Div 3 as new stands go. It approximates to the size and shape for example of the one seen at Orient. Behind the other goal is small layer of terracing from which one gets a truly awful view of the game. terracing alongside one side of the pitch is matched by a seriously small main stand on the other side. Essentially though this is a covered ground on all 4 sides. What the ground truly lacks is car parking. For me and many others our choice of whether to attend an away or neutral game often hinges upon the quality of the game that is likely and the ease of getting there. There are few grounds in the league that are so badly signposted and that are so far from the motorway ( in terms of time). Parking is worse than 7 kinds of nightmare and I have only been rescued at times by kindly neighbours offering to allow us to park in their driveway.
