Saltergate |
The oldest ground in the football
league, but one of my favourites. This is a real football ground with terracing on 3 sides and a few unusual shaped stands to
match. You feel atmosphere here. Nobody seems too sure what will happen to the ground and redevelopment has been long
suggested. Make a visit soon and see how football used to be before all the prawn sandwiches arrived ! I must recommend the Balti pies and Bovril.
For season 2001-2 there are ground changes at Saltergate. The Kop end has re-opened but at the expense of closure of the Compton street and cross street terraces. There is not enough space to describe the problems at Chesterfield, but suffice it to say that the fans have done really well to have any sort of ground to play in and I wish them well. click picture to enlarge |
