For those Brentford fans who went there 3 years ago, you would not recognise this ground. It has been totally redeveloped, yet still retains a good atmosphere. Effectively no terracing now, unlike their rivals Chesterfield. Even the main stand has shiny new seats to replace the wooden instruments of torture. Whoever planned and paid for the upgrading of this ground deserves much success. Possibly the only ground in the league to have a road run right behind a stand. This club should be supported.
In early 2004 I went to an evening game there and saw them play Torquay Utd in a superb game and indeed maybe the best game of the season that I saw. The fans were right behind their players and that helped. The ground although having a capacity of 10,000 seemed almost full with a crowd of half that size.
A large main stand dominates the ground holding around 5000 seats with two large stands behind each goal each having a capacity of around 2500.The away fans are housed in the south stand ( Quarry road - to give you a strong clue this is not the stand that says Stags!)) My only critiscism of the ground is that a small stand remains opposite to the main stand ( Bishop Street stand) that is only used when the ground capacity needs increasing. this makes the ground a three sided affair. I have always wondered how much more difficult this makes it for the players.
There is some parking at the ground though one has to get there around an hour before kick off to gain a space for £2 and of course there is a delay to escape after the final whistle. However there is not much more parking around the ground. A large shopping complex is behind one goal but one is threatened with Guantamano Bay if one parks there!
