Drill Fields

A pleasant little ground on the outskirts of Northwich. As of season 2004-5 Witton Albion share the ground with Northwich Victoria who are currently homeless having vacated Drillfield. Northwich per chance are building their new ground almost opposite here! This is where one must make an observation that in sensible terms surely the two clubs should continue to share and maybe extend this ground if needed rather than build two separate grounds. This simplistic comment though fails to account for the football fan mentality whereby each club needs its own ground. I personally am not sure what the right answer is here.
The ground holds 4,500 and was opened in 1989. For no very sound reason for me this ground does have some character despite being identical to very many other new non-league grounds.
There is a low level main stand (identical to the one at Kingstonian or should I say AFC Wimbledon) that most likely holds around 800 seats. On each of the other three sides there is a covered stand with open terracing adjacent.
Whenever I need any information about the league status of a club I consult
http://www.tonykempster.btinternet.co.uk/ which without doubt is one of the most useful websites relating to non-league football (apart from this one!). Witton currently play in the Unibond/Northern Premier league thus at one level below the Regional Conference and two levels below the main Conference
