This is regarded as the best ground outside the football league. There is a sad story to tell though. Up until 2003-4 Telford were a progressive conference side who comprehensively beat Brentford in the FA Cup and whose players were notoriously far greater wages than the Bees players. There happiness ends. The club owner went bankrupt after a business failure and the club went into liquidation at the end of the season. They have re-emerged after selling the ground to the local council as a new club and were granted entry to the lower Unibond league – which equates to three divisions below the conference. Sad as Telford (together with Northwich Victoria) were the only clubs to have maintained continuous membership of the conference since it began in 1979.
The ground itself is superb. There is enough parking nearby for that not to be a problem with usefully a local college allowing parking opposite the ground for a few pounds. There is a large main West stand holding 2500 with bars and club shops underneath. Each goal has a large covered terraced stand beautifully crafted with the roof design seen at the Mac Alpine stadium in Huddersfield. The side opposite the main stand is uncovered terrace only.
